Mental Health & Substance Abuse Emergencies

The Acute Services Division provides 24 hour crisis and emergency services to all City of Philadelphia residents, regardless of health care plan. These services include:

  • suicide and crisis intervention
  • mobile team assessments
  • referrals to hospital-based psychiatric emergency services
  • approval of involuntary commitments (302) to psychiatric hospitals

Mental health emergencies may include:
  • suicidality
  • agitation and violence
  • responses to hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms that place the client at imminent risk (ie. client acting on a auditory hallucination directing the client to harm self or another)
Substance abuse emergencies may include:
  • withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines (ie. Xanax, Valium) and opiods (ie. heroin, codeine)
