The Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership (AVRP) is a hands-on antiviolence program in which Youth Workers are assigned to high risk youth between the ages 10 and 15 to protect them from becoming perpetrators or victims of violence. AVRP is a collaboration between the Department of Human Services, Family Court, The School District, Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office, social service providers and the community.
Services:
AVRP provides services on the street, in the home and in the community. Youth Workers meet at-risk youth on the street where they congregate. These workers are a constant presence in high-crime neighborhoods providing regular and intensive supervision as well as crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
The program also provides in home counseling for the youth and family as well as linkage and referral to needed services including:
Behavioral Health Treatment Services
Mentoring
Aggression replacement Training
Community Service
Delinquency Prevention Programs.
Target Populations:
AVRP serves youth between the ages of 10-15 who:
Have a prior arrest under age 13
Have been arrested within the past 12 months
Were victims of violence
Have an incarcerated parent or sibling
Live in a household with abuse, neglect or domestic violence
Have a family member or friend that was murdered
Have a history of running away
Have been homeless within the past 12 months
Have eight unexcused absences from school within the past year
Have been suspended three or more times or expelled within the past year
